My first GD shows ever! Forever in my heart.
These 3 shows in Denver were my first-ever Grateful Dead shows. I made it to just 17 shows, total, before Jerry died, but am grateful beyond words for all of them. As I stepped onto the lot for the first time (2 nights before this show,) it felt like I had come home, to a place where 100,000 of my closest friends and relatives (whom I'd never met before!) were gathered. :-D Never let the Love die, folks!!

I vote for 5 star
To Lay Me Down, Let it Grow, He's Gone Jam into Drums, Darkstar v2 out of Space, Wharf Rat & Knockin are all top shelf versions. Garcia's tone is very unique this night. I was lucky to attend. I went back to McNichol's in 1992 and saw another great show on 12/3. Check that one out too.

Standard issue for its era
Jerry retained his powers for the most part ... this was a workmanlike show, pretty good, has its highlights, nothing particularly wrong with it, but it's not one of the ones you'll listen to over and over. I'm just being fair. I sure had a good time when I was there. Oh man ... 2,000 miles from home with about a hundred bucks to my name and completely voiceless with laryngitis ... but still had a wonderful time.

I don't know, but I think this show just shreds. The Fat Man is locked IN! Even Miracle...a throwaway most nights, is smokin', The mix is outstanding...well worth a listen!!!

Don't knock Picasso Moon, Vince, or the 90's ! ! !
hey, I just want to say that "picasso moon" is a cool song. You don't see it played all that often, and I personally think the Dead usually sound a little more invested in the newer songs. How many mediocre "Tennessee Jed"s can you count? I bet you run out of fingers. Cool to hear a solo Vince show from this early, I'm not really missing Bruce on this one. It's too bad Jerry ran out of steam, a show like this demonstrates the potential this line-up had!

Strong show
Only halfway through this puppy, but I'm loving it, and not sure what the negative reviews are about. First of all, I don't get how anyone can say the night was dominated by Bobby; I count 9 Jerry tunes to 8 Bobby tunes. But yes, Bobby opened and closed the second set - with a nice, strange, dark Victim and an always pleasant Lovelight. He also closed the first set, but whoever had a problem with Let it Grow - always fun. Okay, on to the Jerry tunes. The Peggy-O, the Lay Me Down, and the Foolish Heart are hot. The He's Gone and the Wharf Rat are smooth, and there's a nice Heaven encore. Not to mention the completion of Dark Star, which is always hot out of space. This is a good show from the good old Grateful Dead. No complaints unless you're looking for them.

End 'o' the run
The end of an infamous run @ McNichols...... Although this show was subordinate to the previous evenings, it doesn't seem to get the props it deserves. I know, I know, Picasso Moon, Victim, Foolish, No Bruce. Having witnessed this shows & possessing few pre-conceived notions, I enjoyed the renditions of all of the offerings. I didn't stop listening to what they palyed because they didn't break out St. Stephen, Cosmic Chuck or the like. The Victim was full of dark themes & explorations. The Foolish was downright joyous. Even though I mention those other songs first, the Shakedown, TLMD, Let it Grow, Dark Star reprise & Women represented well. I myself am sorry for the negativity communicated about a show that was the little brother to the previous 2. Guess you had to be there........ I saw quite a few off nights between 92 - 95 & would have given alot to witness a 'quality' show like this that seemed to become less & less frequent. All in all, this one was one of the best runs of the 90's. If you liked Denver, check out the Richfield run in 1991. Although the setlists were not quite as crazy as McNichols run, the quality speaks for itself. Good bless the Archive!

Lets put things in perspective
The first two nights here were mostly Jerry nights and this last night is mostly a Bobby night. Taking that into account I think the boys did a wonderful job. Not bad at all for a night dominated by Bobby. To hear the second verse out of Space was quite the anticipated delight. Phil pounded it. I would not have near the same rating for this night nor entire run had it not been completed.

D'Nerva Me In Denver
This is a very fine recording made even finer by remastering. The quality of the recording preserved by remastering has rendered average versions of songs, performance-wise, sound extraordinary.

Completion!!
Was at all three nights and this was also my first Dark Star. After the pre-drums first verse on the 12th and no completion post-drums or the next night, I was virtually holding my breath in anticipation of its completion this night. I was so scared, yes scared, my first Dark Star was going to be tainted by being a one verser. Thank god for completion. Now people, this version has a bad digi-static section in the last part of the show, anybody out there have a sbd copy that doesn't or a good audience copy to contribute so this wonderful sight can offer a flawless copy all three nights? Please!

Let's be honest
I hate to be a negative influence here, but after listening to this show again, I feel I must set the record straight. Although this run was excellent, and I went to all 3 shows, this is definitely not a 5 star show. 3 at best. The playing has some good energy to it, but the setlist blows donkeys (unless you're a big fan of Picasso, Victim, etc.). Foolish Heart is good, but not great. Same goes for He's gone. As far as TLMD, to say it was one of the best ever is a stretch, and let's face it, it's a yawner song. There is a nice bit of midi solo during Women R Smarter, but that only lasts for a few minutes. The sound quality is very good, and it was nice to hear the split Darkstar, but I wasn't wearing wood after listening to it again. All in all, kind of a slow night with good energy. I also lived in Boulder at the time, and loved this run as much as everyone (see my review for 12/13), but I think we can write this one off as by far the weakest of the 3.

No Hornsby
The first two nights were played with Bruce. This night Vinnie soloed. Great versions of T.L.M.D. and Foolish Heart, and not being a big fan of Women are Smarter, Jerry's leads are quite impressive, but the jam out of He's Gone is worth the downlaod by itself. Coming out of space is solid and wrapped up a great run for the boy's.

Big Mac
3 solid shows at McNichols with good sets and a few highlights including Help-Slip-Saint, TLMD, split Dark Star and what I think is one of the better Foolish Hearts(get it for that alone). Good sound quality. Didn't help my grades much that these were Wed, Thurs and Fri night of finals week, lol. 3-4 stars
